Cocktail Masterclass at Malmaison

bonprix-cocktail-masterclass-at-malmaisonAs the colder weather rolls in and the evenings get darker, Christmas is just around the corner, and we all know what that means – work parties, family events and many different reasons to get dressed up and drink cocktails.

Here at bonprix, we know how important it is to be party ready, so we decided to put on an event for 30 of our favourite Yorkshire-based bloggers to teach them how to make a couple of delicious cocktails that will impress their friends and family this Christmas.  All guests wore one of our beautiful party dresses, and by the end of the night they were all officially ready to party their way into the festive season.

The cocktail masterclass took place at the stylish and modern Malmaison hotel in Leeds city centre on the evening of Saturday 12th November. All the bloggers looked absolutely stunning in their bonprix dresses and it was lovely to see them all and have some fun.

The evening started with a champagne reception with canapés on arrival and throughout the night. To celebrate how beautiful the bloggers looked in their dresses, the two cocktails we made were named in style:

The “Pretty in Pink Frocktail”, which was served in a Martini glass and consisted of:

  • Absolut Citron
  • Cointreau
  • Cranberry juice
  • Lime juice

  • Ginger Beer
  • Lime juice
  • Mint leaves
  • Sugar syrup

Everyone had such a great evening and it was so nice to see the bloggers all dressed up in their beautiful frocks, ready to party with a cocktail in hand.

We know it can be tricky to plan your outfit for a family party or work do, but here are some tips that should help you pick the perfect party ensemble:

Dress It Up

While you could go with a smoking suit or a skinny jeans and boots combo, a cocktail dress is always going to make you feel like the belle of the ball when it comes to dressing up for a party. Try and pick a style that suits your shape and go for a colour that you feel comfortable with. Brighter colours will help you stand out from the crowd, but a little black dress is always a good option.

The fit of your cocktail dress should match your body shape: if you want to hide your waist go for a strapless dress, if you are bigger on top choose a V-neck, and if you have an hourglass figure pick something tighter on the waist. Whichever dress you choose, it’s important that it suits your personal style and that you feel comfortable wearing it on the night.

Shoes are a huge part of any outfit – especially when you are going to spend hours on your feet. The last thing you want is glamorous shoes that leave your feet in tatters by the time you get home. The best thing to do is wear shoes you are already comfortable with, but if you are going to buy some new ones for the party, we recommend wearing them in for a few weeks before the event. When it comes to style and colour, there are many different options available. If you are wearing a black dress, then you can choose any colour and go as bright or as subtle as you like. With a colourful dress, you can either match or complement with a vibrant shoe, or contrast with a stylish black option. Sandals and high heels work well with a cocktail dress, but heeled ankle boots are also very fashionable this season.

Shimmer and Shine

The easiest way to change up your outfit is to accessorise. If you don’t want to buy a whole new outfit, but want to change up your style from the last time you wore it, think about mixing up your jewellery, handbag, and other accessories.

If you’re wearing a dress, think about whether you can add a waist-cinching belt or a long layered necklace to jazz it up. Handbags can also make a huge difference to your overall look, whether you go for a clutch, tote or shoulder bag. Pick some beautiful dangly earrings and a stylish bracelet to finish off your look, and you’ll be party ready before you know it.
