Introduce us to your blog, how did you get started?

I started blogging about ten years ago on sites like Live Journal to fashion communities; it was a good way to share your photos and get inspiration from people with similar styles and interests to you. My current blog has been around for about six years under several different names, but I have finally settled on Black Heart Creatives Blog as it ties in with my shop, Black Heart Creatives. I started it as there was so little in the way of wearable plus size fashion, and the bloggers community was quite small back then so it was a good way to say ‘hey I got this cool skirt and the label says 14 but actually it fits a 22’ or to share other plus size stockists with other plus size people and to share your experiences.

How would you describe your style?

Eclectic! I think my roots are firmly in an alternative punky place, but in the past few years it has evolved to more refined version.  I like femme clothes, I hardly ever wear trousers, it’s mainly fitted or body con dresses, statement jewellery, and tailored coats or shirts.

Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

I don’t think there have been any famous idols for me personally; all my inspiration comes from street fashion or friends. I will see someone wear a shirt and skirt and belt in a totally different way to me and think, ok I want to try that. Some days I might listen to some specific music and think ok I want to look like a 70s punk today, and wear my denim jacket that I have covered in patches and pins, and a t shirt I have altered. I run my own business so some days I might feel like I need to be a powerful boss lady to be motivated so I will wear my favourite power outfit of polo neck, body con skirt, thick tights, brogues and my duster jacket.

The community aspect. I like being able to swap tips and ideas and get support from other people who might be round the other side of the world but are experiencing the same things as you. I have also got to do some pretty cool things, like review gorgeous hotels and make bespoke bath products!

Whose style are you currently obsessed with?

I am always obsessed with my friend Danielle Vanier. She manages to change her style as much as Bowie, but on a weekly basis, and she carries everything off effortlessly. If I am really stuck that is the first blog I will hit. I really identify with changing my look as some weeks I might be feeling really androgynous (which Danie does amazingly) and some weeks I might be feeling incredibly girly.

What is your number 1 tip for life?

DWUW (do what u want). Don’t get hung up on what other people think, there is enough stress and difficulty in life without getting bogged down with other people’s problems.

This cord pinafore in rust teamed with this polo neck, this shimmer wrap dress for the Christmas do, and the cosy fringed poncho and chevron cardigan.

If you had to share one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?

Don’t feel like you should stick to any sort of fashion rules, no stripes for plus sizes, no maxi dresses for shorter people, this is all rubbish. You can wear what you want if you carry it off with confidence.

What are you most looking forward to this festive season?

Having a break for the first time this year and drinking buckets of Baileys!
